The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has launched suggestions on the ‘Utilization of Embedded SIM for Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications.’ In response to a request from the Division of Telecommunications (DoT), TRAI carried out consultations with stakeholders and finalised its suggestions after intensive deliberations, the Ministry of Communications mentioned on Tuesday.
Developments in M2M Communication
TRAI mentioned with the emergence of 5G expertise within the nation, alternatives within the M2M sector have expanded, promising developments in areas like agriculture, transportation, healthcare, and industrial automation. These suggestions goal to streamline the regulatory framework for M2M embedded SIMs, emphasising the significance of safety measures reminiscent of correct Know Your Buyer (KYC) processes.

Key Regulatory Framework Streamlining
Key suggestions embody mandating the conversion of communication profiles on imported M2M eSIMs to these of Indian telecom service suppliers (TSPs) inside six months of activation on worldwide roaming, allowing designated license holders to handle Subscription Supervisor-Safe Routing (SM-SR) in India, and facilitating profile set up flexibility for OEMs and M2M service suppliers.
Selling Home M2M Ecosystem
TRAI’s suggestions are anticipated to advertise orderly development in India’s M2M eSIM section and encourage the event of a home M2M eSIM ecosystem, fostering trendy M2M communication development within the nation, the Ministry mentioned.
Moreover, conserving in view the challenges in its implementation, TRAI has advisable towards using the 901.XX IMSI collection allotted by the Worldwide Telecommunication Union (ITU) for offering M2M companies in India at this stage.
