Wearables startup Good Labs has launched a pair of good glasses, merely dubbed Body, which declare to ship “a collection of AI capabilities out of the field” — and, like its earlier Monocle, the software program is “absolutely open-source.”
“What in case your glasses gave you AI superpowers,” the corporate asks, rhetorically, in help of its newest wearable gadget. “[Frame offers] visible evaluation of the world round you, powered by OpenAI. Translate what you see and listen to, powered by Whisper. Search the reside net for what you see, powered by Perplexity. Hack, construct, and modify — Body is open to the boldest concepts.”

Not like the recently-launched Apple Imaginative and prescient Professional, which is a fully-enclosed digital actuality headset with digicam pass-through capabilities, the Body gives a single head-up show over one eye — with optionally available prescription lens inserts out there over each eyes, to allow them to exchange a person’s common glasses. In consequence, they’re significantly lighter at simply 40g (round 1.4oz), and may ship “all-day battery life” with top-ups out there from a bundled stand and charger dubbed Mister Energy.

The bogus intelligence performance, in the meantime, does not occur on-device; as a substitute, it is farmed out to exterior providers from corporations like OpenAI by a companion cellular app dubbed Noa. For early adopters, Good Labs says, this will probably be made out there freed from cost topic to every day utilization caps; a paid tier will comply with for heavier customers, as an as-yet unannounced value level.
Good Labs is taking pre-orders for Body at $418.80 with plain lenses or $536.60 with prescription lenses, with the gadgets anticipated to ship in mid-April. The corporate’s supply code, in the meantime, has been revealed to GitHub below open-source licenses — although whereas it consists of the firmware working on the Monocle and its Noa companion apps, no supply code particular to the Body {hardware} had been uploaded on the time of writing.
